Topic: Introduction Date: 1-2-2006 Page: 1 A little bit about my background, I grewup in a small farming community in rural Indiana during the 50's. My parents were deeply invested in the local protestant fundamental church. My parents were also professionally trained individuals, my mother being a nurse and my father being a Funeral Director. Being immersed in this evironment, infused a combination of values about community, family, life and death, and friends. In that era and environment, there was no mention of Intuition as a skill to use in one's life. There were admonitions from the church against the devil, spirit possession, testing the spirits, use of prayer to change or protect, the right ways to live and think with the hope you could convence someone else to become a believer in the same philosophy and way of life. Throughout my growing up years, I was surrounded with death and dying and physical suffering (my dad had an ambulance service and a hospital equitment loan service). My religion told me about our one life on earth, reenforced by my dad's statement, that we only die once, when I was 5 years old. Funny how I remember the statement, it was on a roll-i-coaster ride. I realize now that my moment of fear opened my mind up for the input of a concept. (a technique I put into practice later as a Recreation Therapist with adjudicated youth doing outdoor challenge activities with them) Of course my church used the same technique by emphasizing Eternal Hell, and then telling me how to avoid such a fate. Briefly, from there I went to Fundamental Christian College, and afterwards became a psychiatric social worker. I was a social worker in the Army during Viet Nam and worked with returnees. For 10 years I worked in community mental health, then got trained as a Recreation Therapist, but returned to cousneling in a private practice for another 15 years. During those years, I explored Biofeedback and its roots in Eastern practices, hypnosis, native american altered states of consciousness, and various forms of meditation and relaxation/stress management. In the mid 90's I was trained as a Massage Therapist and had an office for a year, and then, once again returned to counseling. deeper development of my intuitive abilities by working at a Spiritualist Camp for 3 summers, not as a medium, but as an intuitive consultant. In 2000 I spent 6 months doing a Thru-Hike on the Appalachian Trail, and then for the next 4 summers worked for the Appalachian Trail Conference in NJ as a Ridgerunner. As you can see, my location in the River of Life today, has come from a number of merging creeks (cricks in Indiana), ponds, streams, and runoffs.
