Psychic VS Intuitive Counselor Why do some "readers" refer to themselves as intuitive rather
than psychic? Although there is nothing wrong with being referred to as a psychic,
the term itself has gotten a bit of a bad rap. I personally don't like
the implied exclusiveness or magical-ness associated with the term psychic.
I think the shifting form psychic to intuitive forms a distinction between
those who are interested in helping others with our intuitive skills and
avoid the stigma attached to the term psychic created by the scamming
fortune tellers. I do, personally know individuals who refer to themselves
as a psychics, and who are very genuine in the use of their skills. Because we are all psychic on some level this ability need not be viewed as an exclusive gift or talent possessed by only select individulas. It is more like a muscle that can be flexed or as a dormant ability. Not everyone uses their intuitive natures professionally to help others. For myself, I notice the difference in the reactions I get from people with I say, "I do intuitive consultations" verses, when I say, "I do psychic readings". Because of this obervation, I feel more comfortable referring the members of our group as intuitive counselors/consultants. What's the difference in the mind of a person consulting with a psychic versus an intuitive consultant? Someone who seeks a psychic reading will tend to ask: "When will I meet my relationship partner?", or "what is going to happen with my job", or "when will I come into money"? A person consulting an intuitive counselor asks: "What can I do differently in my life to help attract a loving partner?", "how can I best anticipate the flow of my job", or "how can I best manage my money"? Over the years, I have found that readings are a combination of intuition, psychological reflection, listening skills, and compassionate dialogue. When people come to or call a "psychic" for a "reading," they often have, at least at some level, a magical expectation that the reader will, devine the "truth" about something that they do not believe they can arrive at themselves. They often feel that they have lost control of something or someone, and want a magical insight or hear something that gives hope for things turning out the way they wish. An intuitive consultant, attempts to provide information and options to consider, so that the questioner can make the best decision they are capable of making at the time. In any reading, even a purely intuitive one, I have had the reading punctuated with "psychic", and/or "medium" type information come into my awareness, which I did not anticipate. In the final analysis, there is always a blurred line between "intuitive", "psychic", and "psychology". And, part of my work as a consultant, is to be aware of the differences. It is true that a reading should contain more intuitive insight than advice. Readers should refrain from offering personal advice if that advice is not intuitively-derived. For me, as a long time psychotherapist and body worker, my intuition comes through a mental background of clinical work with people. As I do in my practice, I generally refrain from giving direct advice or telling someone what to do. If I do give an opinion, I state it as my opinion as neutrally as possible, leaving the final decision up to the person. I look at the situation as neutrally as possible, intuitively sense the likely paths and potentionals, and communicate these possibilities for the person for their use in a decision making process..
PSYCHIC VS. INTUITIVE Many people equate being intuitive with being psychic. Most spiritual
adepts make a distinction between psychic and intuitive ability. The psychic
faculty that is termed channeling is typically less under the control
of the mind, and at times reaches a level of unconscious trance. Edgar
Casey, was this type of psychic. This ability is housed in the subconscious
mind, which holds all of our past experiences and beliefs and some would
say, the whole history of mankind. Psychism is more a function of the
emotional/astral plane, and less of the mental plane. Psychics or trance
mediums generally operate in a passive mode, allowing external forces
to control and guide their communications. Part III Alice Bailey on Intuition Alice Bailey is a well known mystic and author of many volumes about the Ageless (Ancient) Wisdom. In her work Alice Bailey writes extensively about the characteristics and function of the intuition. She says there are many activities that we call intuition that in fact are not. She defines intuition as " the synthetic understanding which is the prerogative of the soul, and it only becomes possible when the soul on its own level, is reaching in two directions: Towards the Monad-Oversoul, and towards the integrated and, perhaps (even if only temporarily) co-ordinated and at-oned personality What this means in layman's terms is that the intuition is a state of Universal oneness, any point in time where we are given a small glimpse into the nature of the Divine Plan and what role we can play to hasten It. Intuition is the process through which all significant advancements in human understanding are made. The intuitive mind deals with the advancement of the human race.... The intuition allows us to see the Truth clearly with no interference of the illusions of the worldly mind set. It allows the individual to act with clarity of purpose and certain success. According to Bailey, "(The disciple) learns, finally, to substitute the intuitionwith its swiftness and infallibilityfor the slow and laborious work of the mind, with ... its illusions, its errors....., and its separative thinking and cultural mind sets." "Intuition is the synthetic
